How to Get a Rail Industry Worker Card on the RIW Website

To work in the rail industry, you must first obtain a Rail Industry Worker (RIW) card. This card is your ticket to working on the railways—without it, you won’t be able to access any of the worksites. Getting your RIW card can seem daunting, but here’s a quick guide on applying directly on the RIW website.

1. Register for an Account 

The first step is creating an account with the RIW System. You must provide personal details, including full name, email address and contact number. Once that information has been provided and verified, you will be ready to begin the application process. 

2. Complete the Application Form

You will now be asked to fill out an extensive application form which asks for details about your qualifications and skills with working on the railways. You must be honest when filling out this form as if any false information is found later, it could delay or even void your application entirely. Once it's finished, please submit your application and wait for it to be approved by an administrator.  

3. Provide Identity Documentation 

For your application to be processed further, you must provide evidence of identity, such as a passport or driver’s licence. These documents will then be cross-checked against official records to verify that all information given is correct and valid.

Your RIW card application will include the physical and virtual RIW card and access to your myRIW online portal.
